Finishing the year

Wow 2020! I feel like I haven’t taken a proper breath this year - it’s been a bit of a whirlwind hasn’t it? A lot has happened in the past 12 months for me. We officially set up the O&R business 6 months ago on the 20th of December and I just can’t believe how quickly that time has gone.

Our first Christmas period has been full on and not without its challenges, but also lots of fun. My favourite part has been seeing customers' orders where they are buying our scented candles and candle gift sets as presents. What an amazing feeling it is knowing someone loves our candles enough to gift them to a loved one! That puts a big smile on my face. What’s more, when our scented candles are bought as presents, it largely helps spread the word about the brand and is a lovely, organic way of building my small business. So, thank you - the support is incredible. Without our wonderful customers, this would not be possible. Back in January I never would have thought Olivine & Ruby would be where it is today.

I am hoping to take a few days off over the Christmas break to recuperate (well, I will try - there is only so much of that I can do with two toddlers) and also think about what 2021 means for Olivine and Ruby. As always, I am planning ahead and thinking about what seasonal products and exciting things I can do throughout the year ahead. I’ve been so pleased with our current range of scents but there is always room for expansion which I am really excited about. I am always open to everyone’s ideas too, so if you have something in mind, feel free to comment below.

In January, we will be saying goodbye to our limited edition fragrance Yuletide in London. It has been more popular than I ever could have imagined yet as it’s seasonal, you’ll all have to wait until next Christmas for its return... Or maybe it would have evolved into something new… who knows! But as one door closes, another may open - I have a few ideas up my sleeve. Our brand is based all about destinations and memories, so one thing I am really wishing for next year is to be able to travel again. Whilst I have lots of ideas about new scented candle fragrances, a little trip away for some inspiration is something I’d always welcome.

Anyway, I hope you are all managing to find some time to unwind and do all the things you enjoy around this time of year. I am off to wrap some presents and light a candle as the evening draws in. Of course, it has to be Yuletide in London - my festive favourite.

Take care and have a wonderful Christmas and new year full of optimism and good health.
